Pandemic stops play

Pandemic stops play

You can't help but have noticed that society in general has changed beyond recognition over the past month or so.  The global pandemic has hit everyone greatly and it's no surprise that our little corner has been affected significantly too.

The upshot is that this season is on indefinite hold.  No cricket will be played at any level in the UK for the foreseeable future.  If/when this changes, I'm sure we'll all be champing at the bit to get down to the club and enjoy some balmy summer days watching a pleasant game of bat and ball.  But until then, keep safe everyone and we'll see you on the otherside

Fun Day Success

Fun Day Success

A hearty thank you to all that attended and donated to the Manorlands fun day.  We raised £400 on the day, and are looking into ways to increase this further yet through a charity trust scheme. We have more events planned for the future so keep an eye out.

But in the immediate future we have two extremely brave/foolish (delete as applicable) club members running in the Great North Run on Sep 8th - Bob Morrisroe and Steve Kernan!  Any support for them would be gratefully received - though Steve will have to find his own replacement legs afterwards.

Under starter's orders

Under starter's orders

April 6th will see a packed day at the club as we hold three (!) events in one day.

Firstly we'll be having a work party to get the ground ready for the new season with exciting activities such as 'painting the fence', 'putting up the sight screens' and 'picking up litter'

Once everyone has calmed down from that, we move on to the Grand National, complete with sweepstake and bragging rights for the winners!

Following on from there we move to the evening event - nothing short of a full blown race night!  The fun never ends!

Big Burny Night

Big Burny Night

Despite deciding on holding a low key, smaller, non-advertised bonfire night this year, we somehow still managed to attract several hundred visitors and built another suitably impressive fire.  By the look and sound of things, everybody had a good time, the hotdogs and pies all sold, the fireworks were ooh'd and ahh'd at, and kids ran amok as always.

So, roughly same time next year?

Fun Day Magnificent Success

Fun Day Magnificent Success

The Fun Day was a stunning success with great weather and a good crowd helping to create quite a buzz.  The many attractions kept everybody entertained and the live music performed by local band Awkward really made this year's event standout!

And the best news of all - a whopping £930 was raised for Manorlands!!!

This year's Manorlands Funday...

Once again Riddlesden CC will be holding a fun day in support of Manorlands.

The last few years, this event has proven immensely popular and has raised very welcome funds for a very important cause - and of course has provided much merriment along the way (dunking pool anyone???)

The date is August 5th, so keep the date free.

A few fixes and updates

A few fixes and updates

Carried out a few updates, did a bit of maintenance, added a few names, posted a blog, finally remembered that we have an honours board for scores over fifty/five wicket hauls...

So if everything's broken now, you know who to blame!

Just like all the rest...

Just like all the rest...

Like everybody else in the country, the new exciting GDPR laws have resulted in us having to set out a privacy policy (which I've cunningly hidden away, probably against a dozen rules, in the 'about the club' section)  It's not fun, flash, or particularly important to how you use this site - but it is necessary.

Nothing's changed, we're still being cool about your personal data (as in we don't need it so we don't collect it - but our host may, just like all the other millions of websites you visit).  So just carry on as if it never happened is my advice - I certainly am...

The sun has got his hat on!

The sun has got his hat on!

Hip, hip, hip - hooray!

Let the cricket begin.  We're on the road this week for our first game of the season, visiting Sutton in Craven 2nds.  They were promoted from the 4th division last season.  We finished bottom of the 3rd.  So should be a tight game...

At home, our new tenants Eldwick&Gilstead host Cononley - both were promoted from the 3rd division last year, so again expect a tight game.

New season begins - with a washout

New season begins - with a washout

The 2018 cricket season is underway.  Or is it?  Sadly, the record breaking wet winter has meant that we haven't been able to get machinery onto the pitch in time to prepare for the first match.  All the excitement will have to be put on hold for a little while longer.  We could do with a week or two of summer now - or at least a few days without rain...

A grand night

A grand night

Bonfire night was another huge success.  The long hours building the (yet again) massive fire, and the expenditure on professional grade fireworks were rewarded with a great turnout from the community and a really good natured, friendly event which I'm sure everyone enjoyed.

Same time next year?

Nothing much for ages, then two events in a week.  Yes, once the spooky Halloween party is done and dusted, we move straight on to the annual bonfire night celebration.

Come along on Saturday 4th November and have a (based on last year!) brilliant family night out with all our usual style and panache.

Games for kids, and prizes for best costume.

And the music will be terrible!

Charity is Fun!

Charity is Fun!

Once again, Riddlesden Cricket Club will be holding a wonderful Fun Day in support of Manorlands this August.  Spread the word, let everyone know, and definitely make sure you come along yourselves.

It will be an excellent Charity Fun Day for three special reasons

1) It's a Day!

2) It will be Fun!

3) It's for Charity!

See you there.

Sad days

Sad days

We are sad to announce that with immediate effect Riddlesden Cricket Club has disbanded one of its two teams.  We will no longer field a team in the first division.  The team in the third division will now take on the title of the 1st team.  We tried very hard to avoid this result, but unfortunately a continuing lack of players of the calibre to play at the highest level in the league meant we have had to take this devastating step.

We hope to see out the remainder of this season strongly in the third division, and will then begin recruiting with the aim to form a new second team in 2018 in division 4b

Are we sure we started?

Are we sure we started?

It's hard to tell given that after four games each, neither team has picked up any points at all.  Nor for that matter have we managed to put out 22 players on any of the four weekends.  And amazingly the second team has used four different wicket keepers in the four matches to date!

So I was wondering if, perhaps, we could have a do-over.  You know, start again.  This weekend.  If the other teams want to, we'll give them a head start - say of approximately the number of points they already have.

Yes, that's fair - Season starts this week. Honest!

2017 Season is GO

2017 Season is GO

The opening weekend brought fine weather, good support, compliments from our visitors, but unfortunately also defeats for both teams.

The first team were heavily beaten by a strong Oakworth side, scoring not a lot and then not taking many wickets after the break.

The second team fared better, with Captain Pinkerton scoring the club's first half century of the 2017 season (and incidentally more than the entire first team combined), but ultimately we fell just short in the end.

Onwards to round two:

1st team away vs. Haworth Road CC 1sts

2nd team home vs. Cononley CC 1sts

A month to go!

A month to go!

Just a month to go until the first game of the season.  Spring has arrived and you can tell - the pitch is under water!  It looks bad now, but we know from experience that a few dry days makes all the difference to the ground - but will we get those few dry days?  Here's hoping.

Winter Wonderland

Winter Wonderland

With autumn gradually giving way to winter, and December bearing down on us all at pace, the club have decided to try something a little different.  Another little event to raise interest in the local community, put us on the map, give some joy to our friends and neighbours, make the club a hub for Riddlesden entertainment.

So for the first time as far as anyone is aware, Riddlesden cricket club will be hosting a children's Christmas party on December 11th.  Details are still being worked on, but there will be a Santa's Grotto, games, music, food and hopefully lots of fun!  For the parents there will be other food, and definitely a drink or too available - mulled wine anyone?

Hopefully it will be a smashing success - and this first party will become a hugely anticipated event for years to come.

A Night to Remember

A Night to Remember

November 5th 2016 saw the club put on a hugely popular and successful bonfire night event.  The turnout from the local neighbourhood was superb and I think everyone had a great time.  The fire was, to put it mildly, quite large and the fireworks impressive.  A hearty well done to all who made the event possible, and thank you to those who attended.

We'll do it all again next year!

Remember, Remember...

Saturday 5th November!

We're having a bonfire.  Everyone's invited.  It will be fun!

There'll be a fire, obviously, and fireworks, and pie&peas, and food (other than pie/peas) and drinks, and a real good community spirit - because that's what we do best.

Come along and enjoy yourself.

So long...

So long...

It's been a funny old season.

Floods, rebuilding, spats, defeats, great wins, ultimate survival!  Over the winter I'm sure we'll look back, analyse, and make plans for next year.  But for now we enter the final weekend of the season.

Enjoy the day lads.

A final fling.

A last chance for that big score or that hattrick of wickets.

A last chance to make your mark for the club this year.

A last chance to take to the field with your brothers in arms.

A last chance to just have fun doing what you enjoy!

This is the end!  But next year...
