Snow, hail and rain!

In traditional cricket fashion, the start to the season has brought the coldest, most wintery weather of the year.

Given the damage caused by the Boxing day floods, we were always going to struggle with the pitch even in ideal circumstances, but the incessant bad weather removed any chance of playing a home game on the first two weekends. This is a real shame as elsewhere the club has achieved so much. The clubhouse is now completely refurbished, the new pathway is almost done, the fencing is progressing well and will result in a beautiful looking ground, and new equipment seems to arrive weekly.

Away from home, both the first and second team have managed one match.

The firsts lost out to Haworth Road Methodists despite good bowling figures from Naveed Hussain & Mohammad Qadeer, and a swashbuckling knock by Jamie Fullwood.

The seconds beat Crossflatts yesterday (in bizarrely sunny conditions- it was snowing earlier!) in a tense finish, taking the last wicket in the final over with the scores mightily close. Some lusty blows from Steve McGarry and Shehryar Hussain batting-wise, and great bowling all round, but the big well done goes to Steve Bailey for stepping up to the plate and backing himself to bowl that final winner-takes-all over.

So, moving onwards, here's hoping we get a decent spell of weather - perhaps even summer - and at last get to see some cricket at our own, much improved ground!
