Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad

The weekend brought sun! The weekend brought cricket (3 games!) The weekend brought a first home match! And the weekend brought pain...

Firstly the results (and I'm swiping much of this from the report I just put on the website)

A fairly comprehensive defeat for the firsts at Haworth, but the score sheet suggests it all revolved around one partnership, so unlucky. Mohammed Arshad led the bowling stats with a good 4-43.

The seconds followed up last week's win with another tight one at home against a very pleasant bunch from Gargrave. Steve McGarry led the way with the bat (49), backed up by the bowling of Bob Morrisroe (4-34) and Danny Kernan (3-45). As an aside, the second team are officially unbeaten in their last six games now!

Then there was a 'first' team cup match at Airedale on Sunday. I think it's safe to say that it wasn't a first choice 1st team - but it did the job. In a thrilling finish, the hosts required just five runs off the final over with three wickets in hand. Step forward Mr Hattrick - Mohammed Qadeer (4-30) - to win the match with two balls to spare.

Now for the bravery awards. Incredibly, and in addition to only fielding 10 players in that cup match, fate conspired to reduce our capabilities further still. First Steve Bailey took a blow to the head whilst batting, the ball sneaking through the helmet to cause a stunning shiner and completely remove his depth perception. Then Dale Pinkerton took one to the face whilst keeping with similar results. But both battled on and continued to field - without them it is very unlikely we would be in the second round now!

And finally, as many of you may be aware, Imran Mehrban is currently very unwell. I'm sure we all wish him all the best and hope he gets well soon.
