AGM News
The club's AGM took place last Saturday in an unfortunately sparsely populated clubhouse (come on people - particularly players - show some interest in your club!), so for those who were unable to attend here's a quick overview of the meeting.
Club chairman Greg recapped last year's minutes which in light of events since seemed to be from much longer ago than twelve months. He then delivered his Chairman's Speech.
The most striking point was of course the flood on Boxing Day, and just how close the club came to folding at that time. Initially he really didn't see any way that we could recover - certainly not for the season just gone. But he also acknowledged the tenacity - and sheer stubbornness - of the club members who refused to give in and just got on with the job of putting things right. This was summed up by the appearance one Tuesday evening of a temporary bar in the away changing room, and that despite it being freezing cold and damp, we all huddled in twice a week just to prove a point.
Thanks were made to the people who helped pull the club around - those at the meeting and those absent (Nav, Bren, Dave Henson, Gaz Wright, etc.) There is still plenty of work to do, but the main thing was the club survived and is now in a stronger position in many respects than before.
I then provided a brief review of the player performances and highlights - most of which was copied from the three blogs posted at the end of the season. Which meant it was a bit of a surprise that so few people there knew how close the top three run scorers totals were - almost as though they don't read these blogs... I'm not going through it again here - just look back at the earlier blogs (Batty, Balls, and Pockets)
Ian presented the Financial report next - a lot in it this time due to rather a lot of flood related expenses. Excluding them, the replacement of the roof was a major cost but should now be good for a few decades! I'm not going into specifics here (should have come to the AGM!) but if you're interested perhaps you could ask Ian? He'd love it I'm sure!
In Other Business, the main issue was the lack of Committee Meetings this year. This will be addressed from December onwards with a proper schedule going forward through the winter and subject to review in summer. As (theoretically) always, if you have anything you'd like brought up at these meetings, just have a word with one of the committee members. Other items included thanking Steve Bailey for his long playing career now he has hung up his bat, and congratulations to him on having successfully passed his umpiring course.
Finally, the meeting broke up to allow the scoffing of six very nice pizzas - between just six remaining people! Said you should have come...
