Practice makes perfect
So the saying goes. Of course, for some perfection will require an awful lot of practice...
We've turned the corner on those dark nights - daylight is edging past the 5pm mark now - so it's time to begin preparing for the summer. Yes, our wonderful players will begin their pre-season training this weekend, with nets taking place at Bingley Grammar on Sunday at noon. Over the next 10 weeks arms, legs, backs and brains will be stretched and tested, and the cobwebs of winter will be shaken free. Come the first games on April 22nd, both teams will be at peak physical condition!
See, laughter is good for you! Now that you've recovered, what else has been happening at the club? Not a great deal if I'm honest. This is the quiet time of year when few people are around and the weather isn't conducive to much outdoor work. Having said that, Steve has manfully given the pitch it's first mow of the year already! Otherwise most of the jobs have centred around tidying up after the Christmas and New Year events, preparing the away changing room for decorating, and making lists of jobs still remaining - we have six pages so far. We'll start tackling them on Saturday, should anyone feel like helping out...
And finally, the monthly club meeting took place on Tuesday 17th where a host of cricketing topics were discussed. Unfortunately neither captain could be present which is a shame as their input would be greatly appreciated. As such, I won't expand on the meeting as I'm not sure of the extent to which they have been briefed. Suffice to say it's believed that the coming season should be far better organised than last (thanks mostly to not being flooded this time - fingers crossed!) which in turn should give us a better start to the season and throughout.
There's another meeting planned for February 14th - perhaps some of the players can make it to that one?
