Doing the Hard Graft
It's been a busy week at the club. Thanks to strategic/accidental use of remaining holidays, Greg, Ian and I - with help from Joe - have repaired the ceilings in both changing rooms and toilets, and repainted both changing rooms so they look nice now. There's also a few more coat hooks, sturdier seating, better layout, and it's dry too. The seating still needs a lick of paint, but in general we've spoilt you this season.
We've also ticked off a few more of the jobs in the clubhouse, and had a general tidy, taking some of the bulkier junk to the tip. And today I hear that the electric to the garage is underway. So all in all, it's been a positive week.
Sadly, the weather hasn't been quite so helpful. Five days of relentless rain has taken its toll, and the pitch is somewhat - for lack of a better word - submerged. The ducks seem to like it, but it's not what we need just one month (!) before the first game of the season. Mind you, I've been looking at photos taken this time last year, and then we had a digger on the square scraping the silt off. In comparison, we're probably not too badly off this year. We could just do with a few fine dry weeks now please.
What's next you ask? Well, there's still a good list of outdoors jobs need doing. The building itself still needs facia boards putting up, guttering, and new lighting at least. There is a hope that we can build a sheltered walkway round to the toilets, but that may not happen until later in the year. The trampoline needs rebuilding, the sight screens erected, practice net re-netted (I don't know what the term is...), carpark to clear, undergrowth to mow down/kill off, and of course the pitch prepared for play!
We have four weeks! Easy?
