Bits and Pieces

Time for a series of random points. Put your seat belts on, we're going to be veering all over the place!

Let's begin with Halloween. It's only a week and a bit away, so not much time to sort out your costumes! We're holding a friendly little get together at the club to celebrate the spooky bumps in the night - Saturday 28th is the date. We want to see plenty of ghoulish kids and grotesque adults (other than the usual Kernans!) strutting their scary stuff and making their monstrous moves.

Swerve.

Bonfire night! Saturday 4th November. Remember last year's ridiculously large fire, and the great fireworks, and the insanely busy bar? I only remember the last bit as I was working it, but I'm pretty convinced the vast majority of folks had a great time - and we're doing it again. Though perhaps the fire will be a bit smaller this year? Perhaps only a minor Alp rather than the Matterhorn...

Some cricket news! Jamie, having suffered, I mean served, as captain for the last few seasons in one guise or another, has decided to step down next season and concentrate on playing. So we need a new captain. Any players out there interested in the role, or that of vice captain, let us know. You'll need to be DBS checked prior to the season starting, and be able to convince the committee that you're level headed, calm under pressure, a good motivator, and have a good cricketing brain. Or the only applicant - that would work too.

The AGM will take place at some point in November. We will let you know when, and it would be good to have as many club members turn up as possible. Other clubs get turnouts in the dozens. Surely they don't care more about their club than we do about ours. The more you put in, the more you get out - so the saying goes. Try it.

Having recently purchased a local historian Rob Grillo's book on cricket teams in Keighley through the years, I've been saved the trouble of finding out more about the history of the club as it has a nice little half page covering the basics.

So now we know that Riddlesden Cricket Club was founded in 1882! We're 135 years old!

And after starting life at the top of Riddlesden, near Barley Cote, we have been playing at our present ground since 1896!

Just imagine how much cricketing history the club has.

How many players have donned their whites to represent the club.

How many balls have been hit into the river!

There's a weight of history on all of our shoulders now - and you're all going to become part of that history in due course.

Finally, we have received correspondence from the League Executive in response to our request for calrity on our league position next year. As things stand we have been relegated to division 4a. However, there is still some uncertainty on the make up of next season's league structure, so until the fixtures are produced we cannot be absolutely certain of which division we will play in. As such, we suggest you plan for 4a, but be prepared to play in division 3 if required. If we hear any more, we'll let you know.

There, I think we all made it in one piece. Remember, spooky party and bonfire night coming up. Then the AGM. Put them in your diaries. There may be more events before the year's out so keep checking.

And I didn't even mention Speed Pool - the craze that's sweeping the nation...
