Events : Past & Future
It may be out of season, but the last few weeks have been very busy at the cricket club.
First there was a race night charity event to raise funds for Sepsis UK, with many of Marie, Greg and Ian's Co-op colleagues attending. It was a good night by all accounts, and raised a healthy amount for the charity.
Hard on the heels of that, we hosted a little Halloween party. The clubhouse was decorated superbly by Bernie, and everyone who came along had a good time (though how I didn't win best fancy dress I don't know...). There were contests for the kids, prizes, food, and of course suitably spooky music.
Then came the big one last Saturday - the annual bonfire. This has become a major attraction in the village over the last few years, and this time - thanks to spending a little more on a rather splendid firework display - I think we nailed it.
It was truly hard work, the bonfire takes an age to build even with half a dozen people, who then become fire marshals, cooks, bar staff etc. for the night. It can easily be a 14 hour day for some of us! But in the end, hundreds of people benefit from having a good night out (still free entry - how many other events can say that?) and the club benefits from making a profit that can be reinvested in improving the facilities for the following year. Long may it continue.
So that's the last fortnight - thanks go to all those who helped organise, prepare and run the events (including getting/delivering the wood). You know who you are.
This weekend we're having a break from events - but then the following Saturday it's the AGM.
Saturday 18th November, 5:30pm in the clubhouse.
We would like as many people as possible to attend, particularly players. We will review the year just gone, and a look forward to the direction planned for next year. There will be a chance to ask questions and get clarity (as far as we can) on issues you are interested in. This is your club, we want you to be an active part of it!
Then we should start planning the Christmas thing...
And finally, those of you who were present at the bonfire may have noticed how much brighter it was on the path this year. That's thanks to the excellent new lights installed on the clubhouse and garage (thanks Nav), which really do make a difference on these dark winter nights. Another example of how we constantly try to improve the club year on year!
