Like the Oscars - but better!

The glitz! The glamour! That's right - it's the Riddlesden Cricket Club awards night!

Actually it was last weekend and I've been tardy, but let that not take anything away from the marvellous heroic winners of trophies. I won't dwell on the event itself as the paparazzi were, quite sensibly, excluded from the event given the high profile guests. I won't name names, but was there a certain pop-world superstar performing live??? Well no, but there could have been and those not attending would have been none the wiser...

Anyway, t'was a grand night so let's reveal the winners.

Best batsman: In 3rd place is Qaddy with 599 runs, 1 century and a top score of 152 not out In 2nd place is Shanny with 679 runs, 2 centuries and top score of 112 And the winner, with an incredible 716, 2 centuries and an amazing high score of 212, is Akeel Rashid!

Best bowler: In 3rd place we have Danny with a 21 haul and best figures of 3/11 In 2nd place is Shanny again, with 31 wickets and a best of 5/47 And the prize winner with a brilliant 50 wickets and best of 7/47 is Qaddy!

Best fielder: In 3rd place is Danny with 7 catches and a run out In 2nd place is Akeel with 9 catches and 1 run out But in an unusual twist, the awards committee decided to take the unusual step of awarding the trophy to the wicket keeper on the basis that he has the best keeping figures in the entire league, so congratulations to Jamie Fullwood with 23 catches and 6 stumpings

Player's player award: We had enough feedback from players to have a top three in this category as follows In 3rd place is Jamie In 2nd place (for the third time - Mr Consistent) is Shanny But the clear winner with over half the votes is the ever so humble Qaddy!

Chairman's Award: The recipient of this ward was deemed to have shown the utmost commitment and drive this year in organising and managing a charity event that surpassed all expectations, raising over £900 for Manorlands, and in Greg's words "looking and feeling like a professionally organised event" The winner of this award should feel justifiably proud of herself because she really did make something great happen.

So well done to the winner, Bernie Stenton!

A final special award was presented to Akeel for that outstanding 212 innings - there may not be a league award for highest score of the season but we certainly felt he deserved one.

Players, umpire and scorers all received medals (or will do in due course) to commemorate being part of the Riddlesden 2018 campaign, and thank you everyone who played a part this season.
