Do you recall these blog things?

Wow, it's been a while!

That's what happens out of season, sometimes there's just nothing to write about. But in this instance there's been lots, but I've been bone idle and just not go round to it...

Anyway, what's happened since - dear God, it was October 14th! Well, for starters we had a bonfire. We kept it traditional and held it somewhere close to November 5th, and despite best intentions of building a small fire this time we still managed to create a monster that made the Scots think the Spanish were having another go in the Channel. Also, despite deliberately not advertising it this year, we still had hundreds of people turn up - I guess its just a fixture now. The weather held, the fireworks excelled (thanks Simon), and it was a roaring (pun intended) success once again.

Next, if you've been anywhere near the club of late you will have noticed that it resembles the fields of northern France, circa 1916. We finally tired of seeing the pitch turn into a lake for half the year, so carried out a little experimental digging to determine if there was a problem with the drainage. Ha - obviously there was a problem with the drainage, otherwise it wouldn't resemble a boating lake! However, once we'd discovered that indeed, the drainage was knackered, we extended the initial work and have dug trenches and holes all over the place. It's been bloody hard work! But the pitch is dry now despite all the recent rain, so job well done. Except it is only half done - at some point we're going to have to put in the new piping, cover with 16 tons of gravel, then refill all these trenches. It would be great to have some volunteers (any offers?)

And finally, Tuesday 11th December is the date of this year's AGM. This is an important activity in the club's calendar so it would be great to see as many people attend as possible. The more discussion we have, the better decisions we can make. So please come along - aiming to start between 6:30pm and 7pm - and see how we're doing, what we have planned, and put in your two penneth worth!

Thank you - I'll do another of these some day
