What Did You Miss?
Sorry folks, I know it's the season now and I'm supposed to keep on top of the blogs but boring old Real Life (c) has been getting in the way - mostly work hell - and I've just not had the will to put finger to keyboard. Hopefully that's changing as of this week, so with that in mind I thought I'd start by telling you what you've missed over the last four weeks!
1. Cricket: You've not missed as much as you might have expected. We lost to Skipton, then won (yes, a victory!) against Bradley. Then we had a game completely washed out. Then one abandoned after not many overs. And finally a postponement of the cup game due to a wet pitch. So two out of five matches actually happened.
2. Performances: Well, given so little cricket actually got played, not a huge amount here. But in the win over Bradley, Gully scored 41 and took 4 wickets, Akeel looked assured in his 26 not out and picked up a pair of wickets, Zain bowled extremely tightly taking 2 for 7 off 9 overs, Mick played an excellent anchor role for his 32 not out, and Danny fielded superbly taking a catch and a calm run out. Also welcome back to fitness to Ibrar after his horrible head injury - good to see him back and he assures everyone (and their doubles that he sees) that he is fine
3. Personnel: We have had a few friends leave the club. First and foremost, Jamie Fullwood left after about thirty five years at Riddlesden to try his hand out on the dark side of the valley. Aqeel Aziz also chose to leave after just a few weeks with us, but it feels longer because he's a real nice guy. And scorer Chloe has packed in scoring because she wants her Saturdays free for whatever 18 year olds do - I imagine crochet and flower arranging or something similar.
4. World Cup Fun Day: Didn't happen. Wet!
5.Biggest surprise: Our very own Raheem and Waleed represented Keighley Cricket Club in their fixture against Bingley Congs. Ok it was the third team but still, represented the town! What's more Raheem opened the bowling for Keighley and took a wicket. Star performance, well done!
6. Rain. You probably didn't miss that. You probably wish you could have but it was unavoidable. It's rained a lot. It's been horribly wet, and very unsuitable for cricket...
What's next? Well this week's cricket sees Riddlesden at home against Silsden CC on Saturday at 2pm, then on Sunday at 1pm is our final chance to play our cup game against Haworth - the tie must be decided, even if it goes to a bowl out or coin toss!
We need to arrange some sort of world cup event - anybody got any ideas? Anyone able to scrape a team of non-cricketing types together for a friendly game one Sunday? Football club, work place, etc. Doesn't need to be 11 players, 6+ would be a start.
Also, we will be on the lookout for a new club secretary at the end of this season so if anybody out there has a yearning for the role, get in touch. (technically Jamie hasn't resigned from the role but there may be a conflict of interests there - then again, different divisions - Jamie, if you're reading this there's some tasks need doing...)
And I will try to keep on top of this going forward. I know, vague promises and all that...
