Cricket - it's a summer game!

Well, what's happened over the past two weeks? Cricket-wise, not a lot unfortunately. That old chestnut, British summertime, has played up to its stereotype and been what the weather forecasters describe as 'unsettled'. Or as we call it, wet!
Two weeks ago everything was washed out. Not a single game survived as the rain belted down all day on Saturday. So that was a point picked up against table toppers Bingley Congs!
Then last Saturday we were in the unfortunate position of being in the wrong place at the wrong time (no disrespect to Glusburn!) Most of the games 'that way' (Skipton, Cononley, Thornton, etc.) were abandoned due to the rain that arrived early in the evening. All the games this side managed to finish as the rain arrived much later. Still, at least there was some play - Riddlesden won the toss and batted first. Steve hit his highest score of the season so far (42) in a strong opening stand with Qaddy (30) to put on 73 for the first wicket. Unfortunately we failed to capitalise on the good start as we failed to bat out the 35 overs and finished on 188 all out. Special mention for Biggie who made the tail wag a bit with a good 28 not out. When the game was called off, Glusburn had reached 68-1 off 15 overs, so it was too early to tell who was in the ascendency. So that's 2 points from 2 games - it keeps us 7 points clear of the bottom places so we'll take it.
The other weekend event was our fabulous annual Manorlands fun day. Bernie yet again organised a wonderful day - even arranging for the weather to hold fair until everything was finished. With music, food, stalls, bouncy castle and a tombola almost entirely won by Mick, the day raised over £400 for charity so a big well done to all who helped and all who came to make it a success. We're already planning next year's!
This weekend we are home to Skipton CI - currently second in the table and a bit of a bogey team for us having beaten us 6 out of the last 7 matches (the other was abandoned). But finishing as we started, the weather forecast isn't great...
